The Atlanta Falcons finally found their offense — and they did it in emphatic fashion.
Atlanta rolled past the Green Bay Packers 35-14 on Thursday Night Football, turning a close opening quarter into a runaway victory at Lambeau Field. The Falcons improved to 1-2, while Green Bay fell to 1-2.
For Atlanta, the biggest storyline was the return of quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who looked increasingly comfortable as the night progressed. But the real star was running back Bijan Robinson, who delivered one of the best performances of his young career.
Bijan Robinson Takes Over
Robinson was virtually unstoppable.
He carried the ball 29 times for 194 yards and two touchdowns, averaging nearly 6.7 yards per carry. His explosive running repeatedly put the Falcons in favorable situations and prevented Green Bay from consistently getting off the field.
Robinson’s 55-yard run was one of the game’s biggest plays, and his second touchdown helped Atlanta pull decisively away from the Packers in the second half.
Atlanta also received a strong performance from Drake London, who caught nine passes for 194 yards.
The Falcons finished with 498 total yards, dominating Green Bay in both time of possession and offensive production.
Penix Shows Progress in Return
Penix’s return was understandably one of the game’s biggest storylines.
He finished 18-of-25 for 256 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The interception came early, but Penix settled down and increasingly found a rhythm.
His five-yard touchdown pass to Austin Hooper late in the first half gave Atlanta a 17-7 advantage and capped a drive that demonstrated how much more dangerous the Falcons’ offense could be with Penix under center.
NBC Sports reported that Penix entered halftime 13-of-20 for 114 yards, a touchdown and an interception after initially struggling to find his rhythm.
Packers Struggle to Find Balance
Green Bay’s offense never established a consistent running game.
The Packers managed only nine rushing attempts for 17 yards, leaving quarterback Jordan Love to carry much of the offensive burden.
Love threw for 312 yards and two touchdowns, but he completed just 28 of 53 passes and threw an interception late in the fourth quarter that effectively ended any remaining comeback hopes.
Matthew Golden led Green Bay with five catches for 100 yards and a touchdown, while Christian Watson added seven receptions for 96 yards and a touchdown.
Watson’s early touchdown gave Green Bay a 7-0 lead, marking his fourth touchdown of the season.
But the early advantage quickly disappeared.
Falcons Flip the Game
The first quarter ended tied at 7, but Atlanta controlled the second quarter.
A Nick Folk field goal put the Falcons ahead 10-7 before Penix connected with Hooper for the touchdown that made it 17-7.
From there, Atlanta’s running game took over.
Robinson scored again in the third quarter, and Atlanta added another field goal before entering the fourth quarter with complete control.
Green Bay briefly showed signs of life when Love connected with Golden for a fourth-quarter touchdown, cutting the deficit to 27-14.
But Atlanta answered with another touchdown from Brian Robinson, followed by a successful two-point conversion.
The Packers never seriously threatened again.
A Much-Needed Win for Atlanta
The Falcons entered Thursday night having scored only 16 points through their first two games and had not run an offensive play inside the red zone.
That changed immediately against Green Bay.
Atlanta repeatedly moved the ball into scoring territory and finished the game with a balanced attack that produced 41 rushing attempts and 498 total yards.
The performance also gave the Falcons their first victory of the season and provided an immediate boost after a disastrous 34-3 loss to Carolina the previous week.
What the Game Means
For Atlanta, the victory changes the conversation surrounding the team’s offense.
Penix didn’t have to be spectacular. He simply needed to operate the offense, protect the football after his early interception and give Robinson, London and the rest of the Falcons’ playmakers opportunities.
He did that.
For Green Bay, the loss raises questions about an offense that has struggled to run the football and has forced Love to throw far too often.
The Packers entered their home opener hoping to continue their streak of successful Lambeau Field openers. Instead, Atlanta became the team celebrating at the end of the night.
Final Takeaway
The Falcons came to Lambeau Field looking for their first win of the season.
They left with a statement.
Atlanta Falcons 35, Green Bay Packers 14.
Bijan Robinson supplied the power, Drake London provided the big plays, and Michael Penix Jr. gave Atlanta the quarterback stability it had been missing.
For one night, the Falcons looked like a completely different football team.
