Tyler Shough Leads Late Comeback as New Orleans Scores 18 Straight Second-Half Points
The New Orleans Saints erased a double-digit deficit and stunned the Baltimore Ravens 24-17 on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2026, at M&T Bank Stadium.
After trailing 14-6 at halftime and 17-9 entering the fourth quarter, New Orleans dominated the final period, scoring 15 unanswered points to escape Baltimore with its first victory of the season.
Saints Turn the Game Around
Baltimore appeared to be in control early.
Derrick Henry opened the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run, and Lamar Jackson later connected with Rashod Bateman for a 22-yard touchdown that pushed the Ravens’ advantage to 14-3 late in the second quarter.
New Orleans stayed within striking distance thanks to three Daniel Carlson field goals, including a 47-yarder just before halftime.
The Saints’ offense became much more effective after halftime.
Carlson added a 51-yard field goal early in the third quarter, cutting Baltimore’s lead to 14-9. The Ravens answered with a Tyler Loop field goal, but the momentum was beginning to shift.
Tyler Shough Takes Over
Quarterback Tyler Shough was at the center of the comeback.
Shough completed 27 of 34 passes for 252 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 23 yards and the game-winning score.
With 9:42 remaining in the fourth quarter, Shough found Chris Olave for a 21-yard touchdown. New Orleans then went for two, with Travis Etienne converting the attempt to tie the game at 17.
That completely changed the feel of the game.
The Game-Winning Drive
After Baltimore failed to regain the lead, the Saints put together the decisive possession.
New Orleans drove 68 yards on 16 plays, eventually facing fourth-and-goal at the Ravens’ 1-yard line.
Rather than settle for a field goal, the Saints kept the offense on the field.
Shough took the snap and powered across the goal line with 1:28 remaining. The touchdown was reviewed and upheld, giving New Orleans a 24-17 advantage.
Ravens Get One Last Chance
Baltimore still had an opportunity.
Jackson moved the Ravens into Saints territory and reached the New Orleans 37-yard line with less than a minute remaining. But with 20 seconds left, Jackson’s deep pass intended for Bateman was intercepted by Saints safety Julian Blackmon.
The turnover ended Baltimore’s comeback hopes and sealed New Orleans’ victory.
Key Performers
Tyler Shough, Saints: 27-of-34 passing, 252 yards, 1 TD; 23 rushing yards and the winning touchdown.
Chris Olave, Saints: 8 receptions, 86 yards, 1 TD.
Juwan Johnson, Saints: 4 receptions, 66 yards, including a critical 26-yard catch late in the fourth quarter.
Lamar Jackson, Ravens: 21-of-31 passing, 235 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT.
Derrick Henry, Ravens: 16 carries, 68 yards, 1 TD.
Rashod Bateman, Ravens: 7 receptions, 88 yards, 1 TD.
Defense Finishes the Job
New Orleans’ defense also deserves credit for the comeback.
The Saints held Baltimore to just three second-half points and forced the game’s only turnover when Blackman intercepted Jackson in the final minute.
Chase Young recorded 1.5 sacks, while Pete Werner led the Saints with 11 tackles.
What the Win Means
The Saints improve to 1-1, while Baltimore also falls to 1-1.
For New Orleans, the biggest takeaway is the team’s ability to recover after another slow start. The Saints were down 14-3 in the second quarter but outscored Baltimore 18-3 after halftime.
The victory also gives Shough an important early-season moment. His late touchdown run capped a performance in which he remained composed while the Saints steadily chipped away at Baltimore’s lead.
Final Takeaway
The Saints didn’t win this game by controlling it from the opening kickoff. They won it by refusing to let the early deficit become the story.
New Orleans’ second-half defense tightened, Shough delivered when the offense needed him most, Olave provided the key touchdown, and Blackmon made the final play.
Final: New Orleans Saints 24, Baltimore Ravens 17.
The Saints now return home for their first home game of the season against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sept. 27.
