More vehicles with smashed windows were found Saturday morning in Minneapolis, following a widespread vandalism spree that damaged dozens of vehicles earlier this week.
A 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS crew saw about five vehicles with smashed windows near 700 E. 27th St., with damage concentrated along Park Avenue and E. 28th St.
Another 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS crew found about five other vehicles with smashed windows near the 1200 block of Washington St. NE.
“I have two vehicles broken into…this is one of them,” Joo Hee said as she gestured to a red pickup.
For Hee, the damage was more than an inconvenience.
“It just feels kind of violating, and you just have to reclaim your space a little bit after somebody has invaded,” Hee said.
This came after police said at least 87 vehicles were damaged overnight Friday in at least nine separate cases in Minneapolis. Katelyn Christensen said her neighborhood was hit Thursday and, like Hee, nothing was taken from her car.
“They did not take anything; one of my neighbors had Milwaukee power tools, thousands of dollars worth of Milwaukee power tools, and none of that was taken,” Katelyn Christensen said.
Minneapolis police declined an interview request Saturday, but told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that items have been stolen in some cases. Police also said, “Some descriptions describe a group of juveniles. Others describe a single masked individual.”
Police have increased their presence and issued a crime spree response protocol in recent days. Hee said the repair costs will likely come out of pocket because the damage does not meet her deductible.
“It doesn’t meet our deductible, so we’re just going to do it out of pocket,” Hee said. “About 500 dollars each vehicle.”
Minneapolis police said they will provide a full update Monday on how many cars have been broken into.
