Brendon Daugherty (Hennepin County Jail)
A Minnesota man who served federal prison time for threatening a United States senator is now charged with making threats toward local police officers.
Brendon Michael Daugherty was charged this week for allegedly making threats of violence, a crime that can carry a penalty of up to five years in prison.
The 39-year-old called dispatchers and made numerous threats against Champlin police officers on April 25, charging documents state.
During that call, he specifically named one police officer, the court records note, saying that the officer should die and someone should hurt the officer’s family.
Daugherty also allegedly made statements like, “I want to murder all of you,” “I’m gonna go outside and kill a cop,” “You all need to die,” and “If they want to come see me so I can kill them, bring them here I will kill them.”
Charging documents add that Daugherty was pulled over on April 1 and, during that stop, told the officer to commit suicide. He then followed up by calling the officer’s phone, yelling profanities and threatening to dox the officer. On April 25, he did the same thing and wished death on the officer and their family.
Aside from his conviction for threatening a U.S. senator in 2022, Daugherty also has previous convictions for assault, burglary and aggravated robbery, and he’s accused of recently making threatening phone calls to a federal judge.
His next court appearance is scheduled for June 18.
