One person is hospitalized and another is in custody after a shooting Friday morning in Edina, just blocks from the homicide last week near Southdale Center.
A large number of law enforcement officers from several agencies responded to a shooting report in the area of Heritage Drive and York Avenue South at around 10:45 a.m. Police sent out a message on social media just before 11 a.m. asking the public to avoid the area.
When officers arrived at an apartment building in the area, they found an adult who’d been shot. The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of “serious injuries,” police say.
The suspect fled before officers arrived but was arrested at around noon in Brooklyn Park.
Confirmed domestic shooting. One person sent to the hospital. One in custody.

Police haven’t identified the suspect and victim but believe they do know each other and the shooting wasn’t random.
Last week, a fatal shooting just a couple of blocks away caused Southdale mall and several other nearby businesses to go into lockdown as officers searched for suspects.
A person has since been charged with murder in that case.
