A Minnesota Department of Human Services(DHS) employee received a one-day, unpaid suspension for keying multiple Teslas in Minneapolis last year.
A letter obtained by 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS from DHS shows Dylan Adams was issued a one-day unpaid suspension, which he served on Jan. 22. The letter shows he was allowed to return to work the next day.
“We expect employees – through their words and actions – to hold themselves to the highest standards of honesty, integrity and ethical behavior,” DHS said in a statement to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS. “A careful review of the facts in this case determined this employee’s actions seriously undermined public trust and violated our code of ethics. As a result, the employee was suspended for one day without pay.”
Adams was arrested back in 2025 after he reportedly vandalized six Teslas in Minneapolis, keying the vehicles and causing around $21,000 in damage. After his arrest, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty decided not to file charges against Adams, referring him to an adult diversion program.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara, when the dropped charges were announced, said his officers were “frustrated” at Moriarty’s decision not to pursue charges against Adams.
The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office defended the decision, stating Admas had no previous criminal record and would have to pay restitution to every single victim of his vandalism.
