Leaders of Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan ISD 196 say all district schools closed Tuesday “out of an abundance of caution” after “multiple schools received threats.”
The Eagan Police Department says the district received “threatening voicemails” from out of state early in the morning. Tuesday afternoon, investigators announced they do not believe the threats are credible and do not pose a danger to the community.
“Because we were alerted to these threats in the early morning hours, investigators did not yet have the time needed to determine where these threats came from or whether they were credible. With students and staff preparing to arrive, ISD196 made the decision to close schools out of an abundance of caution,” the Eagan Police Department said in a statement.
Police say they are “confident that it is safe for students and staff to return to school.”
The FBI will be leading the investigation into the threats, according to the Eagan Police Department.
ISD 196, one of the state’s largest districts, oversees more than 30 schools. This situation comes just three months after a 16-year-old boy was arrested in connection with similar threats to the district, as well as neighboring Burnsville-Eagan-Savage ISD 191.
Several other Minnesota schools are delaying the start of class Tuesday or have switched to E-learning, as communities continue to dig out from this weekend’s snowstorm.
