Teyana Taylor Calls Her Crystal Thong a ‘Party in the Back’ as She Cries Through Her Golden Globes Win

One Battle After Another star Teyana Taylor triumphed at the Golden Globes 2026, winning Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture.

She was emotional as she took the stage on Sunday, Jan. 11, at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, and she kicked off her speech by turning around to show the crowd her bedazzled thong.

“Wait, see my party in the back,” Taylor said as she began her speech, which she said she “almost didn’t” write.

She gave a shoutout to her kids, who she said were “upstairs watching,” as she quipped, “Y’all better be off those damn phones and watching me right now.”

Taylor, 35, thanked her parents and her “tribe” of loved ones, whom she called “my grounding force,” and made mention of One Battle director Paul Thomas Anderson.

“To Paul ‘Let ‘Em Cook’ Thomas Anderson, thank you for your vision, your trust, and your brilliance,” she said. “My gratitude is endless. I love you, we love you, and thank you so much for holding space for me and our entire cast.”

Taylor concluded her speech by speaking directly to “my Brown sisters and little Brown girls watching tonight.”

“Our softness is not a liability. Our depth is not too much. Our light does not need permission to shine,” she said. “We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter, and our dreams deserve space.”

In One Battle After Another, Taylor plays Perfidia Beverly Hills, a revolutionary who has a child with a fellow vigilante (Leonardo DiCaprio). Perfidia, who suffers from postpartum depression, leaves her family, which she recently told PEOPLE, “was the result of feeling unheard, unseen, not beautiful, and like a piece of meat.”

“It resulted [in] her to feel[ing] like, ‘Okay, I need to be selfish and show up for myself, even at the expense of leaving my own child,'” she added. “But who are we to judge how she handles postpartum depression after being ignored?”

The other nominees in the category were The Smashing Machine’s Emily BluntSentimental Value’s Elle FanningWicked: For Good’s Ariana Grande, Sentimental Value’s Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, and Weapons’s Amy Madigan.

In The Smashing Machine, a biopic starring Dwayne Johnson as mixed martial arts fighter Mark Kerr, Blunt plays Kerr’s girlfriend Dawn Staples. Her relationship with Kerr hits several bumps, giving Blunt the chance to showcase her emotional range in tense scenes.

“She’s as fierce as she is fragile. She’s this myriad of things,” Blunt told Wonderland Magazine in an October interview, adding that Staples and Kerr “were both tormented by demons at that time, and they both struggled with addiction. They couldn’t live with each other, couldn’t live without each other, and were addicted to that chaos.”

For her role in Sentimental Value, Fanning plays an American actress hired by a Norwegian film director, Gustav (Stellan Skarsgård), for a personal project.

Despite being the only American in the cast, Fanning says she felt very much a part of director Joachim Trier’s on-set family. “For me, I didn’t feel, even though I’m playing the outsider, I certainly didn’t feel like an outsider,” she recently told Deadline.

Grande reprises her role as Glinda in Wicked: For Good, a sequel to last year’s blockbuster Wicked, the musical origin story of the Wicked Witch from The Wizard of Oz. The film explores the complicated relationship between the bubbly good witch and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) a.k.a. the Wicked Witch, as their lives take different paths. Grande was also nominated in the same category at the Golden Globes last year.

“I think the second movie really embodies unconditional love and forgiveness and friendship,” she said last year at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. “And you get to see people reap the… bear the repercussions for their choices that they make in movie one,” she added. “So if movie one is about choices, movie two is about consequences.”

Fanning’s Sentimental Value co-star Ibsdotter Lilleaas was also nominated in the category. She plays Gustav’s daughter Agnes, who, along with her sister (Renate Reinsve), has a fraught relationship with her father.

Ibsdotter Lilleaas told Deadline she could relate to the parent-child dynamics. “I know what it’s like to be in a family and want the family to work. I think a lot of people can relate to that in a less conflict-based way,” she said.

Weapons star Madigan is no stranger to the Golden Globes. She was last nominated — and won — at the Golden Globe Awards in January 1990 for her performance in the TV movie Roe Vs. Wade. She was also nominated twice prior, in 1986 for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture for Twice in a Lifetime, and in 1983 for New Star of the Year.

Madigan, who plays the terrifying Aunt Gladys in the thriller Weaponstold PEOPLE in December she and her husband Ed Harris were having “a good giggle” about the recent awards attention. (She also won Best Supporting Actress at the 2026 Critics’ Choice Awards.)

She added that Gladys, who arrives in a suburban town shortly before several children go missing, seemed to have struck a chord with so many fans because “people want to see original, exciting characters. And I think Gladys proves that.”
