Seth Rollins has addressed bitter rivals CM Punk and Roman Reigns main eventing WWE WrestleMania 42 instead of him.
One year on from Seth Rollins, CM Punk and Roman Reigns squaring off in the main event of WrestleMania 41 Night One, the latter two will go one-on-one in the main event of WrestleMania 42 for CM Punk’s World Heavyweight Championship.
While not confirmed by WWE as of yet, it appears likely that Punk vs. Reigns will close the show on Night Two of WrestleMania 42 – the first time the World Heavyweight Championship will get that spot since the title was introduced in 2023.
Speaking to the Boston Herald, former World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins shared his thoughts on the title he’s become synonymous with receiving the top spot on the Mania card.
Rollins said:
“I’m extremely proud that in all likelihood the world heavyweight championship is going to be featured as the main event Night Two of WrestleMania, which in my opinion is the true main event of WrestleMania.”
“Roman talked down about it as if it were a second-tier title when it was introduced, and so did a lot of other people.
“I felt it was extremely important that our world championship wasn’t monopolized by a guy who wasn’t going to be there enough to help elevate the talent with that title – and that’s Roman. He took the part-time schedule and he’s earned that right.

“On the other hand, we needed a world championship that was going to be represented every week on the Raw brand, one that would allow new stars to be created. So I’m very proud that that belt will be in the main event of WrestleMania.”
After cashing in his Money in the Bank contract and winning the World Heavyweight Championship from CM Punk at SummerSlam, Seth Rollins seemed likely to be heading into WrestleMania 42 season with the big gold belt, however, a torn rotator cuff injury at October’s Crown Jewel PLE saw “The Visionary” relinquish the belt.
While Rollins is “proud” that the World Heavyweight Title is likely to close the show on Night Two of WrestleMania 42, Seth said Punk and Reigns getting the spot instead of him is “bittersweet.”
“It is bittersweet that I’m not the one taking it into the main event of WrestleMania.”
“It’s actually my most-hated rival, CM Punk, against Roman Reigns. The irony is not lost on me.”
What Would WrestleMania 42 Had Looked Like If Seth Rollins Hadn’t Gotten Injured?
It was reported after Rollins’ injury that a match between he and Reigns was the planned main event of WrestleMania 42.
This would have left the other main event to be Cody Rhodes vs. CM Punk, a match that fans have been wanting since Punk’s return to WWE in November 2023.
While Punk vs. Reigns and Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton are locked in for WrestleMania 42, fans have not yet been clued in as to what Seth Rollins will be doing at “The Show of Shows.”
A match between Rollins and Bron Breakker was in the works for Las Vegas, and could still happen if Breakker is fit and able to return from his hernia injury, however, it’s currently unclear whether that will happen.
