Lamar Odom has revealed some shocking details regarding his heavy drug use during his NBA career in a sit-down interview with two basketball superstars.
In an open discussion with Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady on the most recent episode of the “Cousins” podcast, the former Laker revealed that, because to the league’s stringent testing regulations, he never used during games when he was playing.
He opened up to McGrady and Carter:
“If you get caught for sniffing cocaine”, “that suspension is going to be crazy.”
“I had some great cocaine summers,”
During an hour-long on-camera conversation, Odom, McGrady, and Carter discussed the two-time NBA champion’s battle with sobriety, and Odom again admitted to being an addict. He said:
“I loved drugs.”
He spoke about how drugs cost him a place in Hall Of Fame. He spoke candidly saying:
“I should be where y’all at,” “In the Fame. You feel what I’m saying? Off of straight talent.”
“I hurt that by abusing drugs. One hundred percent.”
“I’ve probably been put here to do something more than just play basketball,” “With my story, with my platform — I can save people from this crazy disease that’s f–king America up.”
Odom gave personal information about all the highs and lows of his life, including his near-death encounter at a well-known Nevada brothel in 2015.
He concluded by noting that, although continuing to use marijuana, he had been cocaine-free for two years.
In the end, the 46-year-old informed Carter and McGrady that he hopes to utilize his stories to assist those who are struggling with substance misuse.
