A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a suspicious death at a Wabasha County campground last year.
Stanley Alan Munstermann, 69, is facing charges of intentional second-degree murder, second-degree murder without intent, and first-degree manslaughter for the death of 63-year-old Barbara McBride-Law.
McBride-Law was discovered dead on Aug. 30 inside her camper at Mac’s Park Place.
When speaking with others in the campground, investigators learned Munstermann had been staying with McBride-Law for the last few days. Video from the campground showed Munstermann arriving on Aug. 28 and leaving at 3:47 a.m. on Aug. 30.
Court documents said law enforcement contacted Munstermann on Aug. 31, telling him of McBride-Law’s death.
Munstermann lived near Madison, Minnesota, but was at his girlfriend’s house in Plainview, Nebraska.
He said the two were old high school friends, but were not in a romantic relationship. Munstermann allegedly told investigators he drank a lot on Aug. 29 and blacked out. He claimed not remembering entering or leaving McBride-Law’s camper.
Munstermann said he woke up inside his truck driving on Interstate 90 near Rochester around 3:30 a.m. He then drove to Plainview to see his girlfriend.
Court documents alleged Munstermann made multiple suspicious comments to individuals who spoke with investigators.
He reportedly told one person he thought he killed someone, but said he wasn’t sure because he couldn’t remember. Munstermann also reportedly made similar statements during a phone call while driving on Aug. 30, saying he was scared of himself, that he thought someone was badly hurt, but didn’t know who, and said he didn’t feel like himself and didn’t feel like a good person.
Following an autopsy, McBride-Law’s death was ruled a homicide.
