Teesa Mpagi, the fiancée of Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Antoine Winfield Jr., sprang into action Saturday to help a woman struck by a car outside BMO Stadium.
Mpagi was aboard the friends-and-family bus headed to the Fanatics Flag Football Classic when the pedestrian was hit by a vehicle directly in front of it, according to eyewitnesses.
She leaped off the bus without hesitation and stayed by the injured woman’s side, holding her hand, contacting the victim’s husband for support and offering comfort until emergency vehicles arrived. Mpagi then rode in the ambulance with the woman to the hospital to ensure she was not alone.
Two EAG Sport employees, Alexandra Garcia and Cecilia Macris, joined Mpagi in assisting the victim at the scene. EAG CEO Denise White directed traffic to keep the area clear.
Winfield Jr., a first-team All-Pro defensive back, was traveling with family members on the bus at the time. The woman’s identity and condition were not immediately released.
Mpagi’s quick response has drawn widespread praise online as that of an “unexpected hero.” No further details about the incident or the victim’s injuries were available.
