Another day, another headline that makes you question everything about common sense and basic decision-making. This time, the spotlight lands on Jamelah Daboubi, a 28-year-old high school teacher in Ohio who has been arrested for allegedly having a relationship with a teen student. Yes, a student.
Let’s keep it simple. Teachers are supposed to teach, students are supposed to learn, that’s the whole system and it’s not complicated. There’s no hidden clause that says, “unless you feel like making terrible life choices.”
According to reports, Daboubi is now facing serious legal trouble after the situation came to light. And honestly, this is one of those stories where everyone reading it collectively sighs and says, “Why does this keep happening?”
Jamelah Daboubi, a former teacher at Horizon Science Academy in Columbus, pleaded guilty to gross sexual imposition and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor in Franklin County Common Pleas Court last month, according to court documents obtained by WBNS.
The 28-year-old was arrested in April 2025 after the boy’s aunt found the pair carrying out sickening sexual acts in her car.
The 10th grader told police he and his teacher were in a relationship, locking lips, touching, and swapping thousands of text messages over the course of months, the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office said.
Investigators found the flood of distrubing texts on his phone, including messages where the two declared their love for each other.
Daboubi was fired from her teaching position shortly after her arrest and hit with two counts of sexual battery, which were later amended by authorities, prosecutors said.
She faces 18 months behind bars when she is sentenced at an unknown date, the outlet reported.
It’s wild how a single bad choice can undo years of work. One minute you’re building a career, the next, you’re a headline people are reading with raised eyebrows and a whole lot of side-eye.
Moral of the story? Boundaries exist for a reason. And if your job literally involves minors, maybe, just maybe, don’t do anything that would land you in a news article like this.
