With two days in the book for super regionals, Day 3 is when the field might at least begin to coalesce.
May 22 brought plenty of tight matchups to the fold, opening with a barnburner between No. 6 Florida and No. 11 Texas Tech that saw Florida erase an 8-1 deficit before losing in heartbreaking fashion, 10-8. Texas Tech, a popular “upset” pick that was thought to be under-seeded coming into the tournament, will look to prove those suspicions correct May 23.
One team that won’t be playing on May 22 is Teagan Kavan-led Tennessee, which outlasted Georgia 2-1 in a defensive effort. Karen Weekly’s Lady Volunteers were the first team to punch their ticket to Oklahoma City, though they could be joined by the rest of the field in short order.

The Longhorns and Sooners were both upset by unseeded teams in Arizona State and Mississippi State, respectively: The Sun Devils, speared by a masterful effort from Kenzie Brown on the mound, defeated defending No. 2, defending national champion Texas 4-1. Earlier in the day, the Bulldogs shocked the Sooners with an 11-9 victory that saw Patty Gasso’s squad strand two runners in the seventh.
