A feud between Roman Reigns and GUNTHER is reportedly in the works at some point in the future after “The OTC” captured the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 42 Sunday.
After months of memorable promo exchanges that called upon the pair’s almost 15-year history with each other, 2026 Men’s Royal Rumble winner Roman Reigns challenged World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk in the main event of Night Two of WrestleMania 42.
In contrast to WrestleMania 42’s Saturday main event between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton, which received a mixed response from fans and critics online, Reigns vs. Punk delivered on the quality and intensity that their feud promised.
Also, unlike the WrestleMania 42 Night One main event, the match saw a title change, as Roman Reigns ended CM Punk’s 169-day World Championship run with a pair of Spears, after Punk collapsed with exhaustion in his own attempt to end the match moments prior.
While questions remain regarding what is next for “The Best in the World” after his title loss, Roman Reigns’ first plans as Raw’s top champion are also the subject of great speculation.
“The Tribal Chief” and Oba Femi would share an interesting back-and-forth at the WrestleMania 42 Sunday post show, with the Nigerian star saying that Reigns “can get some” after seemingly retiring Brock Lesnar in the opening bout of last night’s show.
But what is actually coming next for Reigns and his World Heavyweight Championship? According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, the idea within WWE is for Reigns to engage in a feud with GUNTHER at some point in the future.
Meltzer said:
“Based on the idea that I was told, Roman Reigns and GUNTHER would be the idea.
“I don’t know when.”
While we are yet to find out what WWE has in store for Roman Reigns as World Heavyweight Champion, what we do know is that we will be seeing way more of him on our television screens post WrestleMania.
Reigns stated during the WrestleMania 42 Sunday post show that he was gonna “fix” all that “part time crap” and fans will be seeing him all Summer.

As Roman Reigns presses forward towards potential feuds with GUNTHER and Oba Femi, CM Punk’s immediate future in WWE is far less certain.
“The Best in the World” put in the performance of his career in the main event of WrestleMania 42 Sunday, and could very well feel as if he is due a rematch for the World Heavyweight Title at some stage. However, it seems more likely that Reigns will push towards new opponents for now.
With Punk’s former rival Seth Rollins seemingly preoccupied with The Vision and the returning Bron Breakker, perhaps it will be a fresh face who steps up to Punk on the Raw after WrestleMania 42?
Whether it be someone established like Dominik Mysterio, or an NXT call-up like Ricky Saints or Ethan Page, there are many exciting possibilities on the table.
Alternatively, much like his wife AJ Lee appears to be doing, Punk could take a hiatus from WWE TV after WrestleMania. Considering how consistent he has been throughout his work as World Heavyweight Champion, he has earned some time away from the spotlight.
