An update has emerged on Roman Reigns WWE future and contract status, ahead of his WrestleMania 42 main event match.
With Roman Reigns set to challenge for CM Punk’s World Heavyweight Championship on the April 19 show, there has been some speculation about the Royal Rumble winner potentially leaving WWE following previous comments.
Reigns stated in April 2025 that his contract at that time was set to expire after WrestleMania 42.
These comments – along with Reigns stating more recently that he feels he wouldn’t belong in WWE anymore if he lost to Punk on April 19 – have fuelled rumors that the OTC will be done with WWE after this weekend.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider now reports that claims that Reigns’ contract is expiring are NOT accurate.
The report states that they were told WWE is purposefully keeping quiet about the situation to “encourage conspiracy theories” ahead of Reigns’ world title match against Punk.
Someone “with knowledge of the situation” also told PWInsider that, even if Reigns’ contract was actually set to expire, “it was all worked out with time to spare.”
In Reigns’ 2025 comments with Vanity Fair, the former WWE Undisputed Universal Champion stated that after the contract he was in then – which he said was due to expire after WrestleMania 42 – he felt he’d have just “another year or two max” in wrestling before making the transition to a less physical form of entertainment.
More recently, Reigns noted in an interview ahead of WrestleMania 42 that there’s still “a little more juice to squeeze”, and that he feels he still has more to offer in pro-wrestling.
While Roman Reigns may not be wrestling his final match this weekend, it’s clear that he believes he’s in the latter stage of his career, and is starting to prepare for life after wrestling.
With the likes of John Cena and AJ Styles recently stepping away from the ring, Roman Reigns could be one of the next stars to follow in their footsteps.
