WrestleMania 42 Night 1 saw Becky Lynch become WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion, defeating AJ Lee in a “priceless” moment.
Recapturing the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship for a record-setting third time, Becky Lynch has celebrated the victory and reflected on her own daughter being there to witness it.
In a match that saw Lynch play to all of her strengths, even referee Jessika Carr wasn’t able to shut down the outspoken WWE star, despite a physical moment between the two.
Addressing her victory on Twitter, Lynch posted a short video carrying her daughter, writing:
“Beating AJ at WrestleMania was GREAT. Outsmarting Corrupt Carr was FANTASTIC! Having my sweet baby witness history was PRICELESS!! HAHAHAHA it was a ROUX-Z! She never liked AJ!!! #WrestleMANia”
Some fans were critical of Lynch’s method of winning (which involved an exposed turnbuckle), while others were enamored by Roux and her dislike of AJ Lee.
AJ Lee has indicated that she will be taking a hiatus from WWE following her most recent loss, but noted that it was “not goodbye“.
A New Main Event Era In WWE?
With no signs that she’s about to calm down on her distinctive rhetoric, Becky Lynch is likely to laud her championship over her critics with what can only be described as Presidential levels of pride.
The WWE Raw after WrestleMania 42 would seem to be a perfect opportunity for the record-setting three-time Women’s Intercontinental Champion to address not only Jessika Carr, but also the brand’s general manager, Adam Pearce, with whom she has had quite the tense relationship over past months.
Lynch has previously stated that the main event in WWE has been dominated by “two, maybe three, four dudes constantly”, calling for a change in that direction. This latest championship win could very well be the catalyst of change, despite being a secondary title on Raw, particularly with Liv Morgan now being a three-time Women’s World Champion on that very brand.
Triple H has previously suggested that more WWE Premium Live Events could adopt the two-night standard of WrestleMania, with this being a perfect opportunity for a shift that would see a women’s main event on one of those nights, and plenty of opportunity for that to steal the show with the likes of Becky Lynch, Liv Morgan, and Brie Bella & Paige walking out of Night 1 with new titles.
