The moment an Air Canada Express plane crashes into a fire truck on a runway at LaGuardia Airport in Queens on Sunday night, killing the two pilots on board, is captured in terrifying video.
Video taken from inside the airport shows that the fire truck was struck while it was moving to another area of the airport to assist with a call involving a different plane.
Even after colliding with the truck, which was t-boned and completely destroyed, the Air Canada aircraft is seen in the disaster footage continuing down the runway.
The two employees in the truck as well as the passengers and other staff members on board the aircraft miraculously escaped. An air traffic controller was heard pleading with the vehicle to stop before crossing over just prior to the collision.
“Stop, stop, stop, stop! The controller begged. “Stop, stop, stop, truck 1! Truck 1, stop! Quit!”
At first, the truck was permitted to traverse the tarmac in order to investigate another aircraft that had reported an odor. The issue was that permission to land on the runway was also granted to the Air Canada aircraft.
