A blaze at Lutsen resort townhomes at the Caribou Highlands Lodge has destroyed three units.
A video WDIO posted Monday night shows a large blaze.
Firefighters responded to the scene after smoke and flames were spotted coming from the building just before 2 p.m. Monday, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office says.
Flames then engulfed the building, which was comprised of three townhomes. That building was determined to be a total loss.
Two nearby buildings were evacuated but weren’t damaged, authorities say.
Fire crews were at the scene for several hours, battling the flames and then putting out hot spots.
Cascade Vacations Rentals posted on social media alerting guests of the fire, saying that while it is not impacting the Ski Hill Road or the mountain, the emergency traffic and smoke are making the area unsafe, and asking people to avoid the area while the work to put out the fire.
The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
