Mickiah Latrell Jackson will spend 40 years in prison for the shooting death of a man just over a year ago in south Minneapolis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jackson was charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of prohibited possession of a firearm. A jury found him guilty on both charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A judge sentenced him on Monday. He will be credited for 371 days already served.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On April 30 at around 7:47 p.m., officers responded to a shooting on the 3000 block of 15th Avenue South<\/a> and found a man with multiple gunshot wounds who was later pronounced dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The man was later identified as 51-year-old Derrick Lamont Ewing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through the investigation, officers found surveillance footage from nearby businesses from the time of the shooting, which showed three men, one of whom was identified as Jackson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though what the video showed and the investigators\u2019 talking to witnesses, they determined Jackson to be the shooter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy thoughts are with Derrick Ewing\u2019s family and loved ones. Derrick should still be alive,\u201d Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said.<\/strong> \u201cThis was a terrible act of violence and today\u2019s sentence ensures Mr. Jackson will not commit additional harm.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
